A Description Of The Paleo Diet

The Paleo diet is the brain child of Dr. Loren Cordain who is world renown as a leading expert on the diet followed by our Paleolithic ancestors. In several publications in some of the world's most well known scientific journals, he has written about the remarkable health benefits of consuming a diet consistent with human genetic evolution.

The Paleo diet, also known as the caveman or paleolithic diet, is based on consuming natural foods to order to attain optimal health and your ideal body weight The diet is built on the belief that our bodies evolved for over 2 million years while consuming natural, untreated foods like game meat, fresh fish, eggs, a variety of fruits, vegetables and nuts. The human race thrived on this diet which was high in proteins, animal fat as well as low in carbs. As our lifestyles and surroundings changed and we were introduced to non organic, chemically treated foods, the health benefits of eating organic food were began to disappear.

Once we started eating large quantities of chemically treated foods, we started seeing health issues grow, wreaking havoc on our bodies, leading to what Paleo followers refer to as metabolic syndrome also known as diseases of civilization. These devastating health concerns include heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer's, osteoporosis, hypertension, auto immune diseases and a plethora of other health conditions which were not known to our forefathers but plague us today.

Today scientists and medical professionals alike consider diet, along with exercise, to be the most crucial factors for sustaining an individuals long term health. Unless you've been living in a box, you're well aware that Americans suffer more from obesity than in any other country on the planet. In spite of all the latest and greatest diet plans thrown at us every day, many saying, just drink this and you'll drop pounds, etc, in spite of all the claims, we just seem to be growing fatter by the day. The end result is that we are turning into one of the world's unhealthiest nation's not mention that it is also raising health care costs.

Following the Paleo diet provides a safe and healthy way to lose weight, fight diseases like diabetes and heart disease, fight acne and polycystic ovary disease. There is substantial evidence that following the Paleo Diet can relieve rheumatoid arthritis symptoms by reducing the inflammation that causes it. In addition, many world class athletes are said to have improved their performance, shortened injury recovery time and improved their overall health by following the basics of the Paleo Diet.

The Paleo way of life isn't based solely on emulating the eating habits of our ancestors, it's also backed by genuine non-biased scientific research. It's a common sense approach to eating that isn't rocket science. The Paleo diet encourages eating the freshest of fruit and vegetables with their high antioxidant properties, lean protein, seafood and nuts which are high in the healthy fats, Omega 3's. Learning how to live the lifestyle that the Paleo diet promotes can lead to your ideal body weight, maximum health, vitality and peak athletic performance.
